One of my favorite parts of being a real estate agent isn’t just helping people find the right home—it’s helping them fall in love with where they live.

The Triangle has exploded with incredible new restaurants, coffee shops, breweries, and gathering places over the last year, and every time someone relocates here they ask me the same question:

“Where should we go first?”

So here’s my answer.

For Families Who Want Great Food and Happy Kids

Crooked Hammock Brewery | Raleigh

If you’ve got little ones, this should move to the top of your list.

It’s one of those rare places where everyone wins. Picture a beautiful backyard filled with hammocks, lawn games, a playground, live music on select nights, and plenty of room for kids to run while parents actually relax.

The food goes way beyond typical brewery fare, the atmosphere is welcoming, and you’ll quickly understand why it’s become one of the most talked-about family hangouts in Raleigh this summer.

Standard Beer + Food | North Hills

Already a Raleigh favorite, Standard recently opened its second location in North Hills—and it couldn’t be a better fit.

Expect fresh seafood, incredible sandwiches, local beer on tap, and one of the best patios around. It’s casual enough for lunch after shopping but polished enough for dinner with friends.

If you’re spending an afternoon exploring North Hills, make this your lunch stop.

For Taco Tuesdays & Margarita Lovers

Mezcalito

If your ideal evening includes fresh guacamole, authentic Mexican flavors, handcrafted margaritas, and an impressive tequila selection, you’ll love Mezcalito.

The vibrant atmosphere feels energetic without being overwhelming, making it perfect for date night, girls’ night, or celebrating just about anything.

My advice? Order the margarita first and then decide what you’re eating.

The New Places Everyone’s Talking About

Gussie’s | Downtown Raleigh

Gussie’s has quickly become one of those places locals love introducing visitors to.

Part neighborhood cocktail bar, part elevated comfort-food restaurant, it’s effortlessly cool without trying too hard.

Whether you’re grabbing a craft cocktail after work, meeting friends for dinner, or stopping in for brunch on the weekend, Gussie’s somehow feels both trendy and comfortable. The burger has already developed a loyal following, and the cocktail menu is creative without being intimidating.

It’s the kind of place you’ll visit once…and then find yourself recommending to everyone else.

Big Cat | Brookside

If Raleigh had a “most anticipated restaurant” award this year, Big Cat would absolutely be in the conversation.

Located in the Brookside neighborhood, Big Cat combines a restaurant, cocktail bar, neighborhood market, and beautiful covered patio into one thoughtfully designed space.

The menu is chef-driven but approachable, featuring globally inspired dishes, fresh seasonal ingredients, incredible cocktails, and an atmosphere that feels equal parts neighborhood gathering place and destination dining.

It’s one of those restaurants that reminds you just how exciting Raleigh’s food scene has become.

Coffee Shops Worth Going Out of Your Way For

One thing you’ll learn quickly after moving here…

The Triangle takes coffee seriously.

Jubala Coffee

Ask almost any Raleigh local where to grab coffee, and Jubala will almost always make the list.

Known for exceptional espresso, buttery biscuits, and some of the friendliest baristas around, it’s one of those places that instantly feels familiar.

Black & White Coffee Roasters

Coffee lovers already know this name.

Nationally recognized and consistently ranked among the country’s best roasters, Black & White serves incredible espresso, pour-overs, and seasonal specialty drinks from multiple Triangle locations.

Fount Coffee + Kitchen

Bright, airy, and beautifully designed, Fount has become one of my favorite meeting spots.

Whether you’re grabbing breakfast, catching up with a friend, or opening your laptop for an hour, it somehow makes you want to linger a little longer.

Date Night Destinations

If you’re celebrating something special—or just need an excuse to get a babysitter—these belong on your list.

Each offers a completely different experience, but all showcase how quickly the Triangle’s culinary scene continues to grow.

 Explore Beyond the Restaurants

One of my biggest pieces of advice for anyone relocating here?

Don’t spend every weekend at chain restaurants.

Instead…

Walk Downtown Apex.

Spend an afternoon at Downtown Cary Park.

Browse local shops in Wake Forest.

Explore Durham’s American Tobacco Campus.

Visit Chapel Hill for an afternoon of bookstores, coffee, and people watching.

Grab fresh flowers at your local farmers market.

Those are the places where you’ll really start feeling like a local.

When I have a free Saturday, you’ll usually find me grabbing coffee and wandering through locally owned boutiques.

A brewery with live music.

A hidden patio you somehow hadn’t discovered yet.

That’s one of the reasons I love calling this place home—and why I love helping others make it theirs. If you’re new to the area, I hope this gives you a few places to start exploring.
